What is CBD coffee and why you need to try it?

You must have noticed that CBD is all the rage these days as more and more people discover its medicinal properties. It wasn’t before long that CBD coffee entered our lives and there are very good reasons why. So, if you’re wondering what CBD coffee is all about you’ve come to the right place!

CBD coffee has actually many benefits for our health as it’s essentially bringing together two natural ingredients with antioxidant properties. But to better understand its effects on our body we first need to talk about how each one contributes to our health.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol and is one of the 113 cannabinoids that can be extracted from cannabis plants. It is a completely natural, safe, non-psychoactive substance of cannabis.

In fact, it has been proven, after extensive research, that CBD reduces anxiety, inflammation, depression and chronic pains. The reason it took us a while to discover its therapeutic properties is because modern history has been hard on cannabis.

However, cannabis was in recent history’s bad books because of another cannabinoid: tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. This is the only cannabinoid that has a psychoactive effect on the human body and for this reason it has significantly affected the plant’s reputation.

The effects of CBD in our body

There is a system in our bodies called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and it was only discovered by scientists during the 90s. ECS regulates a variety of functions, such as sleep, appetite, pain, and various immune system tasks.

However, chronic stress, malnutrition, trauma, infections, many diseases, etc., affect the ECS, thus reducing the production of endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system.

Studies have shown that CBD can help reduce chronic pain by affecting the activity of these receptors, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters. It’s basically like an extra boost to our ECS system, helping us reach that balance we sometimes need.

The effects of coffee in our body

Many of us like to start our day with a cup of coffee and that’s because caffeine is the most widely known stimulant in the world. This is due to its ability to block adenosine receptors in the brain, thereby increasing alertness, enhancing attention and reducing fatigue.

There is also some evidence that regular caffeine intake may protect us from dementia and Alzheimer's disease, although more studies are necessary to confirm this. The most common question regarding caffeine is how much we are allowed to consume per day.

The recommended daily intake of caffeine according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is 400 mg for adults, which corresponds to 3-4 cups of coffee per day.

This is considered to be a moderate caffeine intake, which according to many studies, can have positive health benefits.

However, the human body's response to coffee or caffeine can also vary greatly between individuals. Some people are very sensitive to it and that usually  depends on their genes and how fast they can metabolise it.

Low to moderate doses of caffeine (50 - 300 mg) can cause increased alertness and concentration, while higher doses can have adverse effects such as anxiety, worry, insomnia and increased heart rate.

So, it’s up to you to decide which dose suits you best. The same goes for CBD, it’s important to listen to your body and then decide what dose is right for you.

The Benefits of CBD Coffee

There are two ways you can mix coffee with CBD, either by adding a few drops of CBD extract to your coffee or by purchasing CBD infused coffee beans. That way you don’t need to add anything yourself, as the roasters have already infused  the coffee beans with CBD extract.

Whichever one you choose to try you will quickly find out that the combination of these two can have some amazing results. On the one hand you have coffee that gives you that extra boost you need and on the other hand you have CBD which negates all the negative side effects of coffee like nervousness and restlessness.

What’s more, both coffee and CBD are sources of high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants help reduce swelling, inflammation and even aging and are known to reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Some other benefits of CBD coffee are:

  • Relieves intestinal problems
  • Reduces the risk of diabetes
  • Promotes cardiovascular health
  • Helps with concentration
  • Relieves the symptoms of depression
  • Improves heart and lung health
  • Reduces stress and anxiety

As you can tell, it’s definitely a win-win situation with these two!

We have the privilege to live in a day and age that is rediscovering the therapeutic properties of CBD and be sure that much more will come to light as science advances.

Bringing together CBD and coffee is winning everyone over simply because it works. People are noticing the benefits and have started to prefer it more and more. So, now that you know all the beneficial properties of CBD coffee, you can make your favorite habit even more special by giving it a try!
